Why join?
There are many benefits of membership and thus all sorts of reasons to want to join, but the reason all of us have joined, is that having discussed the opportunity, we were invited to join by TWO lodge members to become part of the Fraternity.
This ‘Proposer’ and ‘Seconder’ protocol ensures that all candidates for Freemasonry are completely suitable for membership and it’s why many potential candidates have been declined membership. It is upon these Brethren to ensure that you are an asset to the Lodge and they are responsible for mentoring your progress and making sure that you can afford the time and the costs.
If you are interested in membership, then you are welcome to apply. Then, you will simply have to take the time to get to know two lodge members and possibly their partners. When they are sure that you can afford the time and the fees and that your family is comfortable with the time commitment you are soon going to make, then the relevant paperwork is completed and your path to becoming a Freemason has started. You’ll still have to be balloted for in “Open Lodge” so your membership is still uncertain until the Lodge door opens to you for the first time and you take your first step.
Many people ask “Do we really blindfold candidates?” You’ll have to join and find out!
